Hi Mara,
Your story on NBC Nightly News on Pryor, Oklahoma made me want to write. I live in Wilber, Nebraska and I have a neighbor that work for Newell-Rubbermaid in Dewitt, Nebraska which is about 9 miles south of here. The plant is closing soon and leaving about 330 employees with out a job. They are the biggest employer in that town. The brand Vise-Grip was invented in Dewitt more than 75 years ago. Today it operates under the name Irwin Tools. The operation is moving overseas to some place in China. With all these companies moving overseas how do Americans pay bills and keep money in the community if we have no jobs. Pryor, Oklahoma has lost a business and now Dewitt, Nebraska will soon be losing one too. If you work your way north this week on your road trip maybe you can stop in Dewitt and show America another 330 people who will soon be out of a job.
Thank you
I would like to know why this happened. I understand the great accomplishment by Michael Phelps and it's newsworthiness. What I don't understand is how NBC did not acknowledge via camera shot any of Phelp's teammates during the National Anthem after the final men's relay the other night. The entire National Anthem was a close up of Mr. Phelps. Not one camera shot of the rest of the team. Without them, there would be no "Michael Phelps." This was truly poor judgement on NBC's part. I feel In individual events this is expected not in team events. I feel NBC owes the rest of the team and the country an apology for this. Please forward this to the powers that be if possible. Thanks, G
PS I googled this and found the below words pretty much sum it all up.
What an insulting slap in the face to the other 3 members of the gold medal winning men's medley relay last night! During the entire national anthem the ONLY face shown on NBC was Michael Phelps. Not one camera shot of any other member of the team, or even the entire team together during the whole freaking anthem! Yes, Michael Phelps in amazing, but he couldn't have done it without his teammates who also won OLYMPIC GOLD for the US. SHAME ON YOU NBC

Mara: Thanks for your report on the Olympic Superstore that aired before prime time on 8/13!
I have a question about music performances at the Olympics. During the Torino 2006 Winter Games, there were regular nightly music performances in the Olympic Village. Are similar performances occurring during the Beijing Games?
If musical performances are indeed occurring at the Games, it would be great to see them covered!
Thanks so much for your hard work!
